A protest that included a march from E. Palo Alto to downtown Palo Alto ended with a raucous rally at a Wells Fargo Bank branch on Hamilton Ave....

The Juana Briones House, parts of which were built in 1844, has been completely torn down by property owner Jaim Nulman, who fought off historic preservationists, latino activists, and descendants of Briones for years. Feminists joined in the struggle for the home's preservation as well. Jeanne McDonnell, biographer of Juana Briones, stated that historic buildings associated with women are more likely to be demolished than those associated with men....

The Juana Briones House in the hills of Palo Alto is famous for being a rare reminder of California’s early Mexican heritage. After more than a decade of legal battles with the people who bought the house in 1998, preservationists lost their last legal battle, and the historic abode is under demolition at this time.

As of today, it has been a quarter century since the Chernobyl nuclear disaster. The Raging Grannies, in solidarity with Abalone Alliance in San Francisco and other activists around the world, remembered the victims of that man-made catastrophe. They demonstrated against nuclear energy along the El Camino Real in Menlo Park, California, and performed for a lunch crowd in front of nearby Cafe Borrone....

Demonstrators in front of the Bank of America branch in San Mateo on El Camino took advantage of cars stalled in traffic due to heavy construction in the downtown area today. They waved signs and passed out fliers saying, "Change Your Bank Now!" and "We pay taxes, why doesn't BofA?"
