In solidarity with the national boycott to protest the gay marriage ban Proposition 8, rallies will be held in the Bay Area to publicly demonstrate our power. We will also build unity in the new civil rights movement by calling on Obama to pass the Federal Dream Act so undocumented immigrant students are no longer discriminated against in college financial aid and can get a path to citizenship. At the urging of church leaders, Mormons spent about $20 million on the effort to pass California's Proposition 8, banning same-sex marriages, which probably provided the margin that enabled the proposition to pass....

Tuesday, December 2, 2008 : Tensions between gay rights and black civil rights activists flared last week. Derogatory terms were used on both sides, which stirred deep and personal disgust in NAM contributing writer Earl Ofari Hutchinson....

Monday, December 1, 2008 : “You can kill the messenger, but you can’t kill the message,” shouted Tom Ammiano at a November 28 rally to commemorate the 30th anniversary of Harvey Milk’s assassination. “Harvey Milk’s message was hope,” said nephew Stuart Milk, “and its expression was courage.” For thirty years, activists have marched each year to Harvey Milk’s camera store in the Castro – although it’s usually been a brief low-key affair, with a handful of people marching just two blocks....

The (GLBT) Community and its supporters nationwide are mourning and organizing in the wake of last week's announced 52-48% passage of Proposition 8, which eliminates the rights of same-sex couples to marry in the state of California. But an accurate count of the votes may not yet have occurred... As we think about the possibility that Prop 8 was not really passed by California's voters, let's note something that the press, and others, won't discuss: i.e., that the entire apparatus of computer...

Thursday, November 20, 2008 : Yesterday, the California Supreme Court announced it would take up the legal challenges to Proposition 8. But while lawyers debate the future of marriage equality, activists are planning next steps regardless of the outcome. There’s a lot of grass-roots energy emanating from the recent protests, and now is the time to channel that activism into tangible results....

The unfortunate passage of Proposition 8, the so-called marriage protection act, denies equal rights to gay and lesbian couples. However, it is clear that this denial, like prior denials of human rights to other and formerly marginalized groups in our nation's history will fall by the wayside as we slowly progress to an ever "more perfect union."...
