On Tuesday, November 23, 2010 the California Alliance for Retired Americans (aka CARA) delivered 76,000 signature petitions to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi's office in San Francisco, California. This petition calls for Pelosi, the President, the Congress and the (so-called) Fiscal Commission to not cut Social Security, instead to strength it by increasing taxing on the rich Americans whose wealth has increased at unprecedented levels in recent decades....

The entrenched staff at KPFA has been screaming for two months about alleged violations of the union contract between the Pacifica Foundation and the Communications Workers of America. As is usual with that group, they don't actually quote what they are citing or invoking. Current Collective Bargaining Agreement between KPFA & CWA. Section 6-B "any acts that interfere with the Employer’s operations..." "may be made the subject of disciplinary action, including discharge." So, who actually removed the Morning Show before senior interviewers were set to replace BET -- his own actions? (He is still being paid until his contract ends in December, or until he bumps into another job class.)...

TOGETHER paid and unpaid staff and listeners prevented the selling off of Pacifica stations in 1999. Now IS the time to Support KPFA! Devastating as current layoffs of low-seniority staff are, former KPFA treasurer Brian Edwards-Tiekert knew this day had to come years ago....

Pacifica Foundation radio station KPFA 94.1 FM is regretfully reducing its paid workforce from 44 to 35 full- and part-time employees, in order to balance income with expenditures for the fiscal year....
