The fact that two different classes - workers and bosses have squared off, thereby exposing a longtime contradiction within the Democratic Party and the shallowness of so-called Santa Cruz's progressive/liberal mainstream, has not gone over the head of just our former state assemblyman......

Since early 2006, some Santa Cruz businesses have been aggressively fighting a minimum wage increase proposal. Then, in September an independent study concluded that the propsed minimum wage increase of $9.25 would not significantly harm the local economy, including local businesses. Still, these Santa Cruz businesses persist fighting this proposal that would provide a meager wage increase for people who live in one of the highest rent districts in the entire U.S. Here is an incomplete lis...

Last month's outbreak of E-Coli contaminated spinach, which killed three, and sickened 199 others in the US, has many consumers on edge about food born pathogens. About 150 community members marched and rallied for peace at the Thirteenth Annual Peace and Unity March. The participants came together to honor those who have died in violence, listen to family members of community members who had been murdered, and pray, bless, rally, and support el pueblo de Watsonville with peace. Also, families who have lost a member to violence, set-up memorials, or altares,to remember them and for the community to see....
