Homelessness in Sonoma County
By: Desiree Gomez

One might say that Los Angeles is the county that has the most homelessness in California. But on a per capita basis homelessness Sonoma County gets first place in California by having almost 2,700 homeless people in 2020. Sonoma County has a higher v homelessness rate than Los Angeles. The past year the population of homeless people in Sonoma County has gone down slightly. I believe the homelessness is happening in Sonoma County because of how expensive everything is up here in the north. Even if Sonoma County did try and make more housing for the homeless, those houses would even be expensive for those homeless people. When it comes to housing, there should be a section of land where homeless people can live and still feel like they are human beings, rather than feeling like they are trash. The country needs to pay more attention to the needs of homeless people because some of those people are homeless because housing is too expensive in Sonoma County, which then gives those people one option which is going to live on the street.
