Theatrical Stage Employees, Moving Picture Technicians IATSE. Over 60,000 were prepared to strike for after years of worsening
conditions and better benefits.
The recent death in New Mexico of an IATSE cinematographer Halyna Hutchins has again raised the issue of health and safety and the dangerous long hours of film workers.
We talk with Dutch Merrick who is a prop master, armorer and past president of IATSE Local 44 with 7,000 members. He discusses the conditions that led to the death of Hutchins and the growing anger at the dangerous and deadly conditions for film workers.
During the pandemic their conditions improved and many do not want to go back to the dangerous hours and lack of health and
safety. Next we hear from the San Franciscoo Mime Troupe which is alive and well despite the pandemic.
They now have Radio Mime troupe and the Tales of the Resistance and we hear from Part 2.
