In Brazil, former President Lula da Silva has been banned from running in next month's election. Lula is the clear leader in all opinion polls in the election run up. The UN and some international political leaders question the corruption charges against Lula. With Lula out of the election, the leading candidate is far-right lawmaker Jair Bolsanaro, known as the "Trump of Brazil," speaks highly of the military dictatorship that ruled the country between 1964 and 1985. The Cuban government reject the new version of accusations that US diplomats in Cuba were given concussions by microwave attacks. Venezuela denounced the US for a media campaign about a false humanitarian crisis in the country. Syrian President Assad said the US has adopted policies of threats, imposing sanctions, and supporting terrorism in his country. The Spanish Ministry of Defense is canceling an order from Saudi Arabia for 400 bombs because of fears that they will be used against civilians in Yemen- military equipment deals to Saudi Arabia have been cancelled by Sweden, Canada, Finland, Norway, Belgium and Germany.

From JAPAN- A powerful earthquake struck the northern Japanese island of Hokkaido, but the nuclear power plants and storage are reportedly unharmed. For the first time the Japanese government has acknowledged the death of a worker at Fukushima to be caused by radiation exposure.
