Dear Radio Friend,

From JAPAN- The South Korean president Moon Jae-in has offered to help negotiate the denuclearization of the north, and announced a summit scheduled for next month. The president also spoke about a new memorial day for so-called comfort women, who were forced into being prostitutes for the Japanese military. The Iranian supreme leader has turned down Trump's offer of holding talks, saying that America never remains loyal to its promises, adding that there will be neither a war nor negotiations with the US.

From CUBA- As the Cuban constitutional reform progresses the evolving economic model is being debated across the country. The constitutional court in Ecuador has ruled that Chevron will have to pay $9.5 billion for the repair and remediation of social and environmental damage to the Amazonian regions, where billions of gallons of toxic oil waste were dumped into the rainforest on indigenous lands. US Secretary of Defense Mattis began his first South American tour in Brazil, then on to Argentina, Chile, and Colombia. 34 people have been identified as involved in the attempted assassination of Venezuelan President Maduro, and FBI assistance is being sought to investigate links to people in Florida. Thousands of mourners gathered in Yemen for the funerals of 40 children killed by an airstrike on a school bus. Trump signed the new US defense spending authorization bill, a record setting $717 billion, adding to the $5.6 trillion spent on so-called war on terror since 2001.

From RUSSIA- Sophie Shevardnadze interviewed Oliver Stone about a new book and his 4 hour television interview with Vladimir Putin. They discuss why he did the interview, what he learned, and the intense criticism he received in the US. He describes the sequence of events that led up to Putin's ascendence, and why a second Cold War is so popular in the US. He also talks about the absence of a viable political party in the US that is dedicated to peace, and what happened to the "peace dividend" promised as the Berlin Wall fell.

"The West won the world not by the superiority of its ideas or values or religion (to which few members of other religions were converted) but rather by its superiority in applying organized violence. Westerners often forget this fact; non-Westerners never do."
--Oliver Stone, The Untold History of the United States
