Public Banking: Bringing Taxes Back To Us

by Sebashtian Coval
Public banking will bring great equality and economic prosperity to local regions
Over 100 years the great state of North Dakota has been able to successfully provide allocated funds through a state ran bank to keep their cities, counties, and states taxes within their state without big banks controlling them. Many cities and counties rely on banks to maintain control of their money but are charged a fee depending on the amount of money they are under control of. A public bank can be run at a state level or through large cities, and with the push of the Los Angeles Public Banking Group, the movement is to begin to educate people throughout our area of Sonoma County.

We as the city of Santa Rosa have had to pay Three-Hundred and fifty thousand a year for Wells Fargo to be in control of our money, who recently received a below satisfactory rating for its poor contributions to their communities like our own and their ability to properly control the accounts they're in charge of. We could have saved that money and put it back to the community suffering from a major disaster, and instead we are having to cut budgets and jobs of people affected by the fires. A public bank can provide much more money and control to the city and community through allocation of the taxes from the city level all the way up to the state.

Our desire is to bring our money back to the communities and away from the big corporations to give small businesses better chances of getting approved for loans at lower interest’s rates giving them the chance to be able to increase the amount of jobs and wages. We have much to learn and much to share, but together we want what’s best for the community, rather than corporations making decisions for us who are only in it for the profit.
