Buffalo Soldiers Honored at American Heritage Day at Mount Vernon Memorial Park.

by 10th Cavalry, Co. G of Northern California
We are the 10th Cavalry, Company G of Northern California a Buffalo Soldier a living history group. Established in Sacramento in 1992. We re-create a Buffalo Soldier Company during the Indian Wars Period the years from 1866 to 1891. The year our unit concentrates on is 1874. Buffalo Soldiers were members of the US Army and wore the same uniforms as the rest of the U.S. Army. They were initially given left over uniforms and equipment from the Civil War. That was the regulation uniform when the Ninth and Tenth Calvary were created by an act of Congress in 1866 after the end of the Civil War and troops were needed to return to the west that had become lawless during the Civil War.

February 17, 2018 - WASHINGTON, D.C. - In celebration of the achievements and contributions that African Americans have made as part of Black History Month, U.S. Senator Kamala D. Harris introduced a bipartisan resolution yesterday to honor the “Buffalo Soldiers,” African-American soldiers who served in the United States Army following the Civil War and made invaluable contributions to the fabric of our nation’s history.

Following the conclusion of the Civil War, the United States Army allowed African-Americans to serve in segregated units. Two of these units, the 9th and 10th Horse Cavalry, produced the “Buffalo Soldiers.” The soldiers received their nickname from Native Americans as a testament to their fearlessness in battle. In spite of being allocated inadequate resources and facing prejudice, the Buffalo Soldiers earned more Congressional Medals of Honor and had the lowest desertion rate of any unit in the Army.

“Our nation owes a debt of gratitude to the Buffalo Soldiers for their heroism and serving their country with distinction,” said Harris. “Their contributions to our National Parks and our military deserve to be honored for generations to come.”

In addition to Harris, the resolution is cosponsored by U.S. Senators Chris Van Hollen (D-MD), Bob Menendez (D-NJ), Chris Coons (D-DE), Thom Tillis (R-NC), Tammy Baldwin (D-WI), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-RI), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Cory Booker (D-NJ), Tammy Duckworth (D-IL), Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Sherrod Brown (D-OH), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Ben Cardin (D-MD), Tom Cotton (R-AR), Ron Wyden (D-OR), Tim Scott (R-SC), Mazie Hirono (D-HI), Claire McCaskill (D-MO), Tom Carper (D-DE), Bill Nelson (D-FL), and Bernie Sanders (I-VT), with Senator Roger Wicker (R-MS) serving as the Republican co-lead.

The text of the Senate resolution follows and can also be viewed here:

It was the US government that was lawless in its illegal and genocidal destruction of Native American homes and lives from 1789 to 1924, when Native Americans were declared US citizens, but the US government continued its genocidal hatred. It was not just "tragic" as the above Democrat Harris' resolution states. It was vicious racism proudly and openly emulated by Nazi Germany in its destruction of Jewish communities in the 1930s and 1940s in Europe, slaughtering 6 million of Europe's 9 million Jews, then the center of the world's Jewish population.

It was the US government that was lawless in its invasion of Cuba under Theodore Roosevelt. The Spanish-American War against Spain to steal Cuba and the Philippines and make them poverty-stricken American colonies was TR's horror show, nothing to be proud of. Harris does not even bother to call that "tragic." Before the 1959 revolution, Cuba was known as the whorehouse of the Caribbean since prostitution and gambling along with sugar cane and tobacco, dominated poverty stricken Cuba. Thanks to the Cuban Revolution, which soon became a socialist revolution, Cuba's economy and vital statistics are that of an advanced industrialized country, despite the vicious American embargo.

The Philippines remains impoverished with vital statistics similar to Bhutan, Bolivia, Botswana, Honduras, India, Indonesia, Rwanda.

World War 1 was an imperialist war that the US had no business entering and for his vocal, non-violent opposition to it, labor leader and socialist Eugene Victor Debs was imprisoned.

The US did not fight fascism in WW2; it conquered real estate in the Pacific while this writer's mother sat in a Japanese prisoner of war camp as a member of the Dutch Army Medical Corps in the former Dutch East Indies, now Indonesia, being in the Dutch Army Medical Corps her means of escaping the Holocaust of her native Germany. The turning point of WW2 was the Battle of Stalingrad, August 23, 1942 to February 2, 1943, during which the Soviet Red Army single-handedly defeated Nazi Germany as American lend-lease aid did not arrive until after the Battle of Stalingrad. Thereafter, we had the Race to Berlin known as the Second Front, starting June 6, 1944, which the US attempted to beat the Red Army in reaching Berlin, and lost, with the US forces ending 150 miles west of Berlin. After WW2, the US military did everything it could to aid the equally anti-Communist German Nazis in escaping prosecution and emigrating to the US to help in the US military programs. The main theater of WW2 was Europe. With that ended in May 1945, the Red Army was poised to attack Japan on August 9, 1945, the date of the second US atomic bomb on Nagasaki, the first being dropped on August 6, 1945 on Hiroshima, and the Red Army proceeded to attack and fight Japan for 3 weeks, when WW2 ended in Japan. The racist, horrific US nuclear weapons attack by the US was a warning to the Soviet Union that the 20th Century was to be the American Century, and what a stinking, rotten century it was, from US wars against Korea to Vietnam to Africa and Latin America, US imperialism built its empire by slaughtering the workers of the world.

Notably, the above Democrats' resolution does not refer to the 90 African-Americans who participated in the integrated Lincoln Brigades in the fight against fascism in Spain, 1936-1939, where Democrat Roosevelt was officially "neutral." If Nazi Germany had been stopped in Spain, there would have been no WW2 and no Holocaust.

The American military was not integrated until July 26, 1948.

No American has anything to be proud of in killing Native Americans or our fellow workers around the world. The American military only exists to maximize the profits of the munitions makers and oil companies by killing the people of the world and at home. It is long overdue that the military be abolished. It is also long overdue that all guns be banned both in civilian society, as well as abolishing the military, the police, the prison-punishment system and the death penalty. After witnessing the many massacres in this country, some of which may have been staged, all involved guns, it is incomprehensible how anyone can glorify anyone who uses a gun. A soldier by definition is a paid professional killer all around the world.
