Petition to Free Rose Maria Hernandez, age 10, from ICE detention
The latest outrageous racist act perpetrated by the immigration authorities, ICE, was to detain a 10 year old girl, who is mentally about 4 years old, with cerebral palsy, after an emergency gall bladder removal operation in Texas instead of reuniting her with her family because she happens to be undocumented. The petition is at http://dreamactivist.org/national/rosamaria/

The disabled child, Rose Maria Hernandez, desperately needs her family. ICE even followed her ambulance and waited until the surgery was done at the hospital. Those of us who have had a gall bladder removed know that it takes a week to have enough strength to do anything due to the anesthetic and the fact that there are 4 wounds on the body. It is now done in a day, not requiring a hospital stay, but there is still a problem in recovery, and that is for normal, healthy adults. The petition reads as follows:
"Dear DHS Acting Secretary Elaine Duke:
"I write to ask that you administratively close Rosa Maria’s immigration deportation case. I understand that this child is now being held, away from her family, at a children's shelter in San Antonio. I ask that you immediately close Rosa Maria’s deportation case so that this family can focus on reuniting with their daughter. "
"This child, just 10, has Cerebral Palsy and has the mental age of a 5 year old. On October 24th she was unjustly detained by CBP agents on her way to an emergency surgery. Instead of releasing her to her family, instead Customs and Border Protection has labeled her as a danger and a priority for deportation."
"We demand that you now take action and immediately close this child’s immigration case. This family, who still lives in Laredo, Texas, will be detained if they try to cross the immigration check-point to take their child to immigration court. Rosa Maria should never have been placed into removal proceedings, we now ask that you administratively close her proceedings."
