Pleich Opens Council Campaign With Support for Workers
We Stand With Working Men and Women
Santa Cruz is a city of approximately 64,000 of which 31,000 are working people. This year, my City Council campaign will focus on why it is important to support working men and women and the ways in which city government can support those workers.
Santa Cruz has historically been a community where working men and women have built their businesses, pursued their professional careers and raised their families. As a City Council Member, I believe I can support our local workforce in a number of ways.
* By working to raise the minimum wage to a level that provides a living wage for our workers. Working men and women are the foundation of a strong, vibrant economy and they deserve the right to earn a fair, living wage.
* By working to increase the availability of affordable housing, rent-to-own housing and rental units so that working people and young professionals have the opportunity to live here.
* By Supporting Sensible and Sustainable Transportation options for work, school and recreation.
My vision for the future of Santa Cruz is a community where people can work locally, live locally and access sensible and sustainable transportation locally. Let's Keep Our LOCAL workforce and our LOCAL dollars LOCAL
The campaign will begin walking precincts on Monday, June 13th. We will be also be talking about (1) Creating a Permanent Home for the Beach Flats Community Garden; (2) New Options for Our Water Future; (3) Practical approaches to shelter and transitional housing for people experiencing homelessness and (4) Formation of Community Policing Advisory Committee.
If you want your voice to be heard on these and other issues, join me as we raise the level of public debate and restore your voice to city government. For more information about how you can be of this effort, contact me at:
