EBRHA hires so-called hired gun to counter Oakland’s renters movement

The East Bay Rental Housing Association has hired Singer Associates to go after the Oakland renters movement because the landlords are concerned about all of the bad press they have been receiving due to so many people being evicted, including the massive rent increases displacing thousands from their housing! Singer Associates is owned by Sam Singer of Berkeley who is known as a so-called hired gun for corporations and Big Money!

Oakland - The more than 1,200 member East Bay Rental Housing Association (EBRHA) has hired Singer Associates as a way to counter all the bad publicity in the local media lately as a result of greedy landlords involved in the eviction for profit system, and insanely high never ending rent increases forcing thousands of families out of their communities.

Greedy landlords involved in the eviction-for-profit system have been operating in Oakland and the Bay area for many years, and no amount of public relations propaganda can change the facts at this point.

Despite the fact that greedy landlords and slumlords have been operating in Oakland for many years, as recent as May 18, Singer Associates did a hit piece against the renters movement and city officials of Oakland, after EBRHA hired them in an effort to try and make the landlords appear less evil and greedy, than they really are.

On behalf of EBRHA, in their hit piece against the renters movement in Oakland, Singer Associates is claiming that the renters movement and city officials are misleading the public with false information in regards to the housing crisis, and the number of people facing eviction or displacement due to excessive never ending rent increases.

However, it is actually Singer Associates that is misleading the public with false information in their hit piece because they neglected to mention that most renters are so afraid that an eviction will appear on their credit report, that most of them evict themselves after receiving a 3-day notice or 30-day notice to quit (eviction notice). Most tenants never end up in court to fight an eviction because the landlords have terrified them, and often the tenants feel that they cannot afford to hire an attorney to represent them in court against the wealthy greedy landlords.

Additionally, according to the City of Oakland there were around 11,050 termination notices served from January 1, 2015 through February 29, 2016 and about 100 additional termination notices were served during March 2016. Singer Associates is trying to use its PR firm and propaganda machine to hoodwink the public into believing that the landlords have not been evicting Oakland renters by the tens of thousands in recent years due to greed and the eviction-for-profit system.

Singer Associates is owned by Sam Singer who has a home on Roble Rd., in the hills of Berkeley.

Sam Singer and Singer Associates are also up to their eyeballs in horse manure in the effort to help Chevron of Richmond get rid of the progressives in the Richmond City Council, and now they are up to their dirty tricks in Oakland on behalf of the greedy landlords of the East Bay Rental Housing Association (EBRHA).

According to the public records with the California Secretary of State the entity number C0181511 for EBRHA is active.

The East Bay Rental Housing Association used to be known as the Rental Housing Association of Northern California and their last recorded 990 tax filing was in 2010. This may explain why their status was revoked by the IRS in 2014, and may explain why they renamed the organization as East Bay Rental Housing Association. The ein # 940287586, is still listed for both organizations.

Years ago the Rental Housing Association of Northern California filed a lawsuit against the City of Oakland over the just cause eviction protection ordinance/Measure EE, but when all was done and said in court most of the ordinance was held intact to protect the renters of Oakland.

Clarification: The East Bay Rental Housing Association used to be known as the Rental Housing Association of Northern Alameda County and they sued the City of Oakland in an effort to terminate Oakland's just cause eviction protection ordinance, also known as Measure EE.
