Oakland sued by former Black Panther member

By Lynda Carson - December 20, 2015

Oakland - On Dec. 18, the SF Chronicle reported that former Black Panther leader Elaine Brown, has sued Oakland Councilwoman Desley Brooks and the City of Oakland. Brown is seeking $6 million for allegedly being assaulted by Councilwoman Brooks during a private event at Everett & Jones Barbeque, in Oakland. Brown is also demanding $1 million from the City of Oakland.

According to the lawsuit, Elaine Brown is seeking damages for elder abuse, assault, battery, false imprisonment, intentional infliction of emotional distress, and negligence.

Additionally in the lawsuit, Brown alleges that on October 30, 2015, Councilwoman Brooks assaulted, struck, pushed and hit her without provocation, excuse or justification, while discussing City of Oakland business regarding affordable housing.

The affordable housing project allegedly being discussed by Brown and Brooks, is in regards to a small parcel of land freely given to Brown and her nonprofit organization called “Oakland & the World Enterprises”, by the City of Oakland.

Clarification: Lease agreement for land

It appears that the City of Oakland and Oakland And The World Enterprises, Inc., entered into a lease agreement for the land at the heart of the feud between Elaine Brown and Councilwoman Desley Brooks.

I may have been wrong in stating that the land was given freely, but my impression was that the land was given freely.

Sorry for any confusion. Click on link below for agreement or the resolution for - S16.
