CENSORING ARUN GUPTA
NOVEMBER 11, 2015 PACIFICA IN EXILE

On November 10, 2015, supporters of the Berkeley wing of the Siegel/Brazon faction (Save KPFA) targeted an interview between Flashpoints host Dennis Bernstein and Indypendent editor Arun Gupta.

Gupta, who writes for The Nation, The Progressive, Al-Jazeera America, and The UK Guardian and has been a Democracy Now correspondent, was accused by Save KPFA supporter Sheila Sexton of being anti-union. This was quickly echoed by SaveKPFA-affiliated local station board member Kate Gowen and former Pacifica IED Margy Wilkinson, who asked for complaints to be filed with KPFA’s general manager and program director over Gupta’s interview.

Gupta provided a measured critique of SEIU’s leadership of the Fight for $15 movement.

The full 13 minute interview can be heard below.

The exchange on Facebook is excerpted here. It reveals a poor understanding of current progressive discourse, intolerance for dissent, the instinct to censor prominent national journalists, and a reflex reaction to punish the Flashpointsprogram, even going so far as to say it should be eliminated on editorial grounds.

Sheila Sexton

Was anyone else just listening to Dennis Bernstein’s anti union segment? I tried to call to complain but no one answered.

Kate Gowen likes this.

Kate Gowen What did he say?

Margy Wilkinson Sheila: You can send a message to the General Manager at q [at] kpfa.org and to the Program Director at pd [at] kpfa.org

Barrie Ann Mason I think Dennis Bernstein needs to move on, he’s used up his good will at KPFA. I’m sure he has loyal supporters however.
by Stop Hate Pacifica Gang
Flashpoints' producer Dennis Bernstein did an excellent-as-usual interview with Aron Gupta on the Democrats' publicity stunt known as Fight for a lousy $15 per hour, with which you cannot pay the rent in most of the San Francisco Bay Area. The Labor Lieutenants of Capitalism known as the union leadership are bought and paid for by the Democratic Party and for the presidential election, they are always ready for show business, this time with the $15 per hour campaign, to make the millionaire, war criminal, pro-police, pro-fascism at home Democrats appear pro-labor by having Democratic Party candidates walk picketlines (e.g. Zionist warmonger Bernie Sanders) and in some areas, pass $15 per hour legislation such as New York City, where you need a lot more than $15 per hour to pay the rent. This has nothing to do with labor organizing, which as Gupta stated, is a social movement involving strikes and transforming society, which only labor can do.

Margy Wilkinson certainly knows all this as she spent most of her adult life as a member of the Communist Party and is the daughter of Communist Party leaders, Helen Lima and Mickey Lima, the latter having been Northern California chair of the Communist Party. See http://www.berkeleydailyplanet.com/issue/2005-06-24/article/21688?headline=Helen-Lima-Presente-By-MARGY-WILKINSON-Special-to-the-Planet

Since she is determined at age 72 to destroy the 5-radio station network of which KPFA is a part, the Pacifica Radio Network, we must ask how long has this experienced destroyer of progressive institutions been doing this? Sooner or later, we will learn the truth about Margy Wilkinson, her connection to Dan Siegel, and all the rest of the Hate Pacifica Gang commonly known as SaveKPFA. What Margy Wilkinson and her ilk do not understand is that The Whole World is Watching her destruction of Pacifica and we are outraged.
