This Week in Palestine, June 5th, 2015

This week the Palestinians marked the 48th anniversary of the Naksa, the day Israel occupied the West Bank Jerusalem and the Gaza Strip. On the ground Israeli navy and air-force escalated attacks against Palestinians communities in Gaza this week. These stories and more coming up stay tuned.


The Nonviolence Report

Let’s begin our weekly report as usual with the nonviolent activities organized in the West Bank. six children and a man were injured on Friday while scores others suffered effects of tear gas inhalation on Friday as Israeli forces attacked nonviolent protests organized in West Bank villages. IMEMC’s Majd Batjali with the details:

This week protesters marked the 48th anniversary of the Palestinian Naksa, when Israel occupied Jerusalem, the West Bank and the Gaza Strip in 1967.
Six children from the same family between the ages of 8 years and five months were treated for the effects of tear gas inhalation as Israeli troops attacked the weekly protest organized by the villagers of Kufer Kadum in northern West Bank. One more man was hit with a live round during the protest.

In central West Bank, at the villages of Bil’in and Ni’lin, Israeli soldiers attacked the protesters as soon as they reached the gate in the wall that separates local farmers from their lands. Many protesters suffered the effects of tear gas inhalation and were treated by field medics at both locations.

At the nearby al Nabi Saleh village, Israeli troops fired several rounds of rubber-coated steel bullets at the villagers as soon as they reached the village entrance. Moreover Israeli troops fired tear gas at residential areas causing damage to homes. Many residents suffered effects of tear gas inhalation as a result.

Also on Friday at the village of al Ma’ssara near the southern West Bank city of Bethlehem, soldiers attacked villagers and their international supporters as soon as they reached the entrance of the village and forced them back. No injuries were reported.

Moreover, around two hundred Israeli and international activists joined on Friday midday the villagers of Susya, in a solidarity march against the planned demolition of the village and deportation of its residents. The event today was organized by the Combatants for Peace movement and the local village youth committee. The protest reach the settlers road near the village. The march ended peacefully

The Political Report

The International Orange telecommunication company announced a boycott of Israeli counterpart. Meanwhile, Palestinians in the occupied Palestinian territories mark the 48 anniversary of the June4's war of 1967. IMEMC’s Rami Al Meghari with the story:

Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamin Netanyahu, called on France to help prevent Orange Telecommunication Company from boycotting Israel. Israeli government was reported to have been concerned over the growing international boycott of the Israeli state.

Meanwhile, the Palestinian people mark this week the 48 anniversary of the June4's war of 1967, in which Israel occupied the Gaza Strip, West Bank and East Jerusalem.

Marchers in Gaza, called on the United Nations to take action, almost five decades following that war.

At the internal Palestinian level, efforts are underway to restore the Palestinian national unity, between the major Palestinian parties, Fatah and Hamas.

In the meantime, the Palestinian Authority reaffirmed position that it would not go back to negotiations table with Israel.

The West Bank and Gaza Report

This week the Israeli navy and air-force escalate attacks targeting Gaza, meanwhile in the west Bank army and settlers demolish farms. IMEMC’s Eman Abedraboo-Bannoura reports:

This week the Israeli navy escalated its attacks targeting Palestinian fishermen in the Gaza Strip. Israeli navy ships opened fire, on Tuesday morning, on a number of Palestinian fishing boats in the Sudaniyya Sea area, northwest of Gaza city, wounding three fishers. Palestinians news sources said that the wounded fishers have been moved to the Shifa Medical Center, west of Gaza city, suffering moderate injuries.

Two more attacks were reported on Monday and Thursday of this week. In those attacks troops also kidnapped ten fishermen and took them to unknown location. All attacks took place while the fishers were in Palestinian territorial waters.

Also in the Gaza Strip this week, The Israeli Air Force carried out, on Thursday at dawn, several air strikes targeting a number of areas, and resistance camps, in different parts of the Gaza Strip, causing excessive property damage but no injuries. Israel claims the bombardment came in retaliation to shells fired from Gaza. The alleged shells landed in open areas in the Negev causing no damage or injuries.

In other news in the coastal region, the Hamas-run security forces in the Gaza Strip shot and killed, on Tuesday morning, a Palestinian man, believed to be a supporter of ISIS, in his home, in Sheikh Radwan neighborhood in Gaza City. According to security forces officers located explosive belts and charges, RPG rockets, and various types of weapons and ammunition in the man’s house.

On Sunday, a group claiming allegiance with ISIS issued a statement claiming responsibility for assassinating a senior Hamas commander by detonating his store in Khan Younis, in the southern part of the Gaza Strip.

In the west Bank, An elderly Palestinian woman, Thursday, suffered a heart attack after as Israeli forces raided her family’s home in al-Samou‘ town to the south of Hebron. Moreover, a female Israeli settler ran over a Palestinian youth on Thursday morning, near the West Bank city of Salfit. Witnesses said that the settler approached the youth while he was walking on the platform of the main street in the city. The young man sustained moderate wounds and was moved to a Palestinian hospital in Nablus city.

Elsewhere, on Thursday morning, Israeli forces demolished over 30 agricultural structures in the northern Jordan Valley, meanwhile in Qaryout village, near the northern West Bank city of Nablus,Israeli extremists bulldozed and uprooted, on Tuesday morning, Palestinian lands in preparation to pave a road linking between two illegal colonies, built on the villager’s lands.
