From Palestine to Ferguson: Expressing Solidarity, Blocking Traffic in San José

by Ruth R.
Speakers at a rally in San Jose, California drew parallels between the shooting of black teenager Mike Brown and the crushing of protesters in the aftermath, and the treatment of Palestinians under Israeli despotism. They said that police deployed tactics to attack unarmed protesters in Ferguson and that these are the same tactics used by Israel-trained police. They said the connection is not coincidence.

A group of about 100 demonstrators in front of San Jose City Hall called for white supremacist regimes of oppression everywhere to be dismantled. After a 30 minute rally the group began their march from City Hall, weaving passed construction areas, through the city supported Christmas themed amusement park, and passed the front doors of the swank Fairmont Hotel.

As they took control of the streets and blocked traffic their call and response cries included "whose streets? our streets" and "hands up, don't shoot".
