Kurds resisting despite massive ISIS onslaught

by S
After losing lots of ground in the initial days of the ISIS attack on Kobane, the Kurds seem to have fought ISIS to a standstill today, killing 8 ISIS for every YPG/YPJ soldier killed. The front has, however, moved dangerously close (about 15km) to downtown Kobane where all of the civilians in the region have taken refuge, meaning Kobane is now in range of most types of ISIS artillery.
If Kobane falls, the other anticapitalist revolutionary kurdish areas may be next, and there will be no progressive democratic force in the middle east anymore. It is important to note that the kurdish YPG and YPJ are armed only with AK47s and a few RPGs against ISIS which is attacking them with modern main battle tanks and US-made heavy artillery including howitzers and multiple rocket launch systems captured from the clusterf*ck Iraqi puppet army.
ISIS continues to receive weapons and ammunition from Gulf States, Croatia, etc. via ("NATO-ally") Turkey.

War in Kobanê: 232 ISIS gangs were killed-UPDATED
Monday, 22 September 2014 17:29 hawarnews.com

NEWS DESK - The most recent wave of ISIS attacks launched with an aim to occupy the Kobanê Canton of West Kurdistan is continuing on the seventh day, having however failed to achieve its purpose in the face of the determined resistance by YPG/YPJ fighters and the people of Kobanê.

Releasing a balance sheet for the clashes going on in Kobanê since 15 September, YPG Press Centre said that 232 gang members were killed and 32 YPG/YPJ (People's/Women's Protection Units) have lost their lives in the last one week. The ISIS advance on the eastern front has been halted by West Kurdistan fighters while fierce clashes are continuing on the southern and western fronts, the statement said.

YPG Press Centre stated that fierce clashes continue to take place in the villages of Ayn Betê, Qişlê, Xirxiriyê, Seylim and Kofî to the east and south of Kobanê.

The YPG statement said that ISIS gangs attempted an attack from the village of Çemalî bordering Bakurê Kurdistan early Monday morning, but were inflicted a heavy blow by YPG forces that immediately responded to the attack.

According to the YPG statement, 5 gang members were killed in an action by YPG forces in the region, and 5 fighters of their forces fell fighting on the eastern front.

The statement noted that YPG forces have halted the ISIS advance on the eastern front where gangs had recently escalated their attacks in the villages of Bobaniyê and Dualanê. Dozens of gang members were killed in clashes in this region, it added.

YPG noted that 232 members of the gangs were killed in Kobanê region in the last one week, adding that these figures didn't include those ISIS gangs suffered in 17 actions carried out by their forces, and clashes they followed.

YPG forces also destroyed four tanks, 13 military vehicles and 7 others carrying heavy weapons, and seized large quantities of ammunition from the gangs.

The statement added that 32 fighters of the YPG lost their lives in one week of heavy clashes.
