(OAKLAND) –Today, Oakland Mayoral Candidate Dan Siegel announced that he has been endorsed by the largest labor organization in Oakland: SEIU Local 1021.

SEIU Local 1021 represents over 54,000 employees in local governments, non-profit agencies, health care programs and schools throughout Northern California.

Their commitment to workers and families is perfectly aligned with Siegel for Oakland campaign’s Progressive Platform.

Specifically, the Siegel Campaign looks forward to continuing work with 1021 on the campaign to raise the minimum wage in Oakland so workers earn enough to provide for themselves and their families.

“I am grateful for the confidence that the members of Local 1021 have expressed in our campaign and its potential for real change in Oakland,” said Siegel. “I will do everything in my power to justify Local 1021's support as we create an Oakland that appreciates and respects the contributions of City employees and of all people in our community.”

The Union endorsed Rebecca Kaplan as their 2nd choice and Mayor Quan as their 3rd.

Ever since Dan Siegel has been running his campaign, there has been absolute silence on the J28 mass lawsuit resulting from the arrests at the YMCA in Oakland. And not only that, but Siegel is running on a campaign to increase the size of the police force, so there will be more cops apprehending protesters and escaping lawsuits. Given Siegel's platform to expand the police, it looks like the lawsuit has purposefully been driven into the ground, so there can be no restorative justice for protesters. After J28, arrestees were specifically told by Siegel not to file their own lawsuits, and that his firm would handle everything collectively. But it looks like Siegel never had any intention of actually trying to win a case against OPD. And now, with statute of limitations, it is fairly impossible for any of the J28 arrestees to file a lawsuit; too much time has passed.

OPD won their victory, and will have their own puppet mayor no matter who wins: Siegel or Quan, it makes no difference.

Who's idea was to take the Henry J Kaiser Convention center when a previous attempt at taking a building had already failed? J28 was designed specifically to discredit OO and get everyone arrested. It gets people on the "jailhouse support" track; thereby, taking people away from any real organizing.
