Frameline LGBT Film Festival STILL In Bed With Apartheid
Once again, Frameline, the largest LGBT cultural event in the world, delivers a slap in the face to Palestinian queers and everyone who cares about liberation and human rights.
For the fifth straight year, Frameline is partnering with the Israeli consulate. The new Executive Director, Frances Wallace, even refused to meet with Arab queers and allies to discuss the issue. In response, at least four filmmakers this year declined to have their work shown or distributed by Frameline. They're getting the message, but not loud enough.
Frameline 38 runs June 19-29.
Whether or not you choose to go, there are a few simple things you can do to let Frameline know that apartheid and queer film make strange bedfellows.
1) Download this sticker and wear it everywhere you go, especially in the Castro and Mission and to Frameline films. Make a few more for your friends.
2) Tweet #BDS to @Framelinefest
3) Email fwallace [at] frameline.org and demand that she meet with people who want to discuss this issue. Also let her know you join Alice Walker, Angela Davis, Mira Nair, Susan Stryker, Barbara Hammer, Roger Waters and many many other artists and activists in support Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions against Israel.
