Love Know No Borders, No Walls Vigil At GEO Private Prison, Aurora, Colorado

by Tim Paynter (immigrants2bfree [at] gmail.com)
A large group of people met in the frigid air to raise awareness of the use of private prisons by GEO Group, Inc. to imprison people while making huge profits for GEO Group.

"Our Resistance Is Growing," community members and activists said on the American Friends Service Committee 'Love Knows Borders, No Walls" face book site. "We will stand in solidarity with all families facing deportation and detention. We'll bring hot chocolate, you bring a friend!"

People representing many groups, including the American Friends Service Committee (AFSC) met at the GEO private prison outer boundary to recite poetry and to call for an to the government granting private, for profit businesses the right to imprison people. The government hides the cost of imprisoning people who have committed no crimes through the use of private companies. GEO Group, Inc. reported revenues of 1.7 billion in 2012, which is a mind numbing amount of tax payer money diverted from building schools, parks, recreation sites and generally improving society.

"For the 6th year in a row, AFSC will deliver lovingly hand made valentines to both detention center detainees and day laborers,"
information on the page indicates. The Aurora facility houses undocumented immigrants, the majority who pose not threat of violence to the US. These people could just as easily be placed on ankle monitors at lower cost to the people. Ultimately, a solution to the borken immigration system must be found in order to stop the breaking-up of families and to keep productive people engaged in their current lives, jobs and families. https://www.facebook.com/events/1399662590283874/ Event video: http://youtu.be/QpmSjZ0rzZQ
