How you can help Indian Canyon

by Decolonize Cali
Earlier in October a new informational brochure was released by Costanoan Indian Research, Inc., a 501(c)3 nonprofit organization that exists to support the educational and cultural conservancy work at Indian Canyon (see PDF). The brochure outlines how community members can help Indian Canyon, the only land continuously held by the Ohlone people.

Every year thousands of people visit Indian Canyon to attend educational programs and to hold traditional indigenous ceremonies. Indian Canyon is the only federally recognized “Indian Country” between Sonoma and Santa Barbara, and has been sacred land and home for Costanoan Ohlone people for thousands of years.

How you can help Indian Canyon:

• Volunteer some time.
• Make a donation:
--Helpful funds, or materials
--Land maintenance tools (gloves, rakes, shovels, picks, spades, sheers, wheel borrows, tractors, etc)
• Your skills, services, internship
• Grant writers welcome
• Spread the word of helping

What is Indian Canyon?

"At times the canyon is a source of inspiration, at
times it is a source of dreams, at times it provides
a freedom, like a deer walking in a evening meadow;
at times it is a song forever singing, at times
it is a sunshine that flashes clear through my
being, At times it is a dream, sweetly evasive; at
times it is a whispered message, “You are forever
welcome.” That is all. Babe"
- Darryl Wilson

"Long drawn out healing for future generations"
- Noel Oard Mapstead

"A safe place to feel the Spirit.... -Nancy Fairchild
Peace, prayer and community"
-William Underbaggage

"Spiritual land where I can pray and commune with
the ancestors and The Creator without distraction."
-Alberto Fregoso

"Native Ohlone Heritage-sacred land."
-Tzinflas MoZep

"A refuge & sacred place"
