On December 2, 2013, at the California Endowment, California Safe Schools (CSS) http://www.calisafe,org a children’s environmental health and justice coalition known internationally for their leadership in creating groundbreaking environmental health policies and programs for schools and communities will host, “Your Life is Now”, an environmental health Summit and the 15th Anniversary celebration of California Safe Schools.

Founded in 1998 by Robina Suwol, CSS spearheaded the first policy in the USA to embrace the Precautionary Principle & Parents Right to Know at the 2nd largest school district in the nation, Los Angeles Unified.

The success of the policy led to California legislation, the Healthy Schools Act 2000, and AB 405 created by California Safe Schools. AB405 prevents experimental pesticides from being used in K-12 California public school campuses. As a result, 6 million students, hundreds of thousands of teachers and school employees are protected.

A highlight of “Your Life is Now” will be the presentation of the Pearl August Awards. “Pearl was an Advisory Boardmember of California Safe Schools, former Director of Productions for the Volvo for Life Awards, a humanitarian, and a magnificent human being, who passed away suddenly last year. Her generous spirit, and heartfelt efforts spanned the globe. We are honored to be able to celebrate her life, and recognize individuals who exemplify her work and vision,” said Robina Suwol, founder and Executive Director of California Safe Schools.

Carlos Reynosa, celebrated master of flute and song, will provide a special tribute to Pearl August. The event will also include presentations by leading environmental health experts.

Invited guests include: local, state and federal government leaders, regulatory agency representatives, students, teachers, school administrators and their staff, and members of the public.
