BART Workers and Trade Unionists Speak Out At BART Inquiry In Oakland
Workers and trade unionists spoke out at the Brown ordered BART inquiry on
August 5, 2013 in Oakland to stop a strike of the BART ATU 1555, AFSCME 3993 and SEIU 1021. BART argued that the workers should take a pay cut to pay for the cost of new trains and equipment. They also refused to answer why they will not bargain over health and safety issues.
Workers spoke out about the conditions at BART and the negotiations including the care of their families. Chris Daly, the political director of SEIU 1021 and former Supervisor in San Francisco supported the use of a sales tax and bonds to pay for more more trains and capital costs rather than a transit tax on the big corporations and developers that benefit from BART and its expansion.
