The Uhuru Movement has announced an international organizing tour to promote the unification of Africa into a single country whose vast wealth and resources would benefit its citizens. It is seeking donors to finance the travel expenses of this historic tour.

Led by African Socialist International (ASI) Chairman Omali Yeshitela for over four decades, the Uhuru Movement has established human rights campaigns and economic self-reliance institutions in African communities throughout the U.S., Europe and Africa.

Speaking at the European Foundation for North-South Cooperation's International Congress on Africa-Spain relations, in Huelva, Spain, Yeshitela declared that “Africa is not poor; Africa is being looted! The U.S. has an Africa plan. France has an Africa plan. China has an Africa plan. But Africa does not have an Africa plan. Africa’s resources belong to African people and we must build worldwide unity under the leadership of the African working class and poor peasantry in order to regain control of our birthright!”

In the tradition of Marcus Garvey, Kwame Nkrumah and Patrice Lumumba, the Uhuru Movement does practical work based in the African working class including agricultural and sustainable energy projects, healthcare training and international trade relations.

This June, Uhuru Movement organizers will be in Sierra Leone, where local AAPDEP leader Nurse-Midwife Mary Koroma has built a successful Infant and Maternal Health Project as well as self-reliance farms and schools. All African People’s Development and Empowerment Project (AAPDEP) Director Dr. Aisha Fields, International People’s Democratic Uhuru Movement President Diop Olugbala and African Socialist International Secretary General Luwezi Kinshasa will spend two weeks there, conducting a program development conference and organizing regional expansion of the projects.

According to Kinshasa, “Our people are starving in Sierra Leone, despite producing the best diamonds, having an abundance of sea and river fish, and living on extremely fertile land. The masses have long ago given up waiting for the government to develop and modernize the country. The young people, the vital force of the country, are abandoned to themselves, strangled by unemployment, under education and underdevelopment.

“In a country where people are paid less than a dollar a day, women bear the brunt of the parasitic capitalist economy. They pound the cassava leaves, break stone with hammers all day long, and wash clothes by hand, after either getting water from the well, or from the river. They have to walk long distances to get coal or firewood, or go to the market by walking or by getting into overcrowded and dangerous, privately owned, poda-poda (over-crowded shared taxis).

“The African Socialist International is engaged in an effort to get back control over our lives and land for ourselves. This task begins with organizing the impoverished African workers and peasants on the ground. Today with the science and confidence of African Internationalism, the masses of our people can get busy with the business of organizing for self-empowerment in all aspects of life.

“This trip deserves the support of anyone who believes in a world without oppression and exploitation with its heavy load of daily humiliation and inhumanity. The people must achieve self-organization and self-empowerment. Your contribution will take us closer to that goal.”

Also in June, ASI Chairman Omali Yeshitela will be speaking at African Liberation Day in Paris and addressing African audiences in Germany and Sweden. From there, Uhuru Movement organizers have been called to bring the political theory and practical strategy of African Internationalism to Kenya, Tanzania, Swaziland, Johannesburg and Cape Town, South Africa as well as Colombia and Argentina, the Caribbean, and Canada.

Yeshitela declares, “If you believe that the only solution for African people everywhere is a united and liberated Africa then you must contribute to this urgent call for the One Africa Tour Fund. With your support and thanks to 40 years of tireless work by the African People’s Socialist Party building the African Independence movement worldwide, our people everywhere can see a future of justice, prosperity and self-determination.

“We are at a crossroads of history. The world has changed – oppressed peoples are rising up for our freedom and liberation. The Uhuru Movement is the fastest growing liberation movement in the entire world! Our ability to become a free a self-determining people requires the participation of every African and support from every ally. Be part of making history! Africans are taking our future into our own hands.”
