Stop Anti-Rent Control Legislation

by repost
Sups. Wiener and Farrell have introduced legislation which will repeal rent control from thousands of landlord-occupied apartment buildings. Their plan will let these buildings become condominiums automatically, bypassing the condo conversions lottery and tenant protections in the city’s condo conversion law. Under state law, condominiums are exempt from rent control.
From website of San Francisco Tenants Union http://www.sftu.org/
The legislation is a huge gift to property owners: they will be able to rent out non-rent controlled apartments and the condominium form of ownership will increase the value of their property by well over 20%. This gift to landlords comes at a time when tenants are facing record high rents–and landlords are getting record profits and seeing the value of their buildings soar.

The legislation will let any property which has 2 or more owner occupants pay a fee to become a condominium. These are about 2,000 such buildings will be eligible. If this legislation passes, we can expect to see a sharp increase in evictions as landlords will anticipate that City Hall will let them move in and then repeal rent control.

Please call or Email all 11 supervisors, all Democrats, some of whom are anti-rent control.

Only in San Francisco could these no-good stooges of the 1% be called Democrats. Remember the vote on the micro-apartments? Screw 'em all. Except maybe John Avalon.

didn't catch a misspelling, make that John 'Avalos.'

Continuing from previous post, for those of you who missed the micro-apartments, the BOS approved apartments designed for two people, with just 220 sq feet for living space, and at a rate that's 60% over current market value for square foot. Wiener used the anti-nudity law as cover, few papers or blogs picked up on the micro-apartments in the hullabaloo. The city council has no problem with unsustainable development. We better be prepared to bring in robots for work-class jobs, 'cuz who is gonna sit in four hours of traffic each day on 101 or the Bay Bridge just to make $10.55?

For Wiener's supposed Harvard education, he sure is fucking dumb. In fact, all Harvard seems to give the world are white-collar criminals who re-write laws so their evil can't be prosecuted. The whole Ivy League is just a bastion of privileged, self-superior scum who will gladly destroy the world to show off their "connections."
