by Bill Carpenter (wcarpent [at] ccsf.edu)
The January 11th rally to save CCSF ended with "City College Parody" by Woody Guthrie, Pat Wynne, and Bernard Gilbert.

The people of San Francisco overwhelmingly showed a vote of confidence in CCSF by passing Proposition A, a parcel tax specifically dedicated to offset budget cuts, prevent worker layoffs, maintain essential classes, programs and student support services. However, the district intends to use the funds to pay high-priced consultants and bolster reserves.

Therefore, the Brass Liberation Orchestra and CCSF students, staff, teachers and department chairs picketed and boycotted Interim Chancellor Thelma Scott-Skillman’s welcome address initiating the spring semester at City College. Instead of attending Dr. Scott-Skillman’s speech, the CCSF community held a rally addressing the people of San Francisco.
