KPFA Ballot & UCR Mailer Arrived; Vote Today

by Vote United for Community Radio
The KPFA ballots have arrived along with the United for Community Radio mailer. It is urgent that you vote and mail your ballot today. While the deadline for receipt by the New York service is December 11, 2012, the mailing deadline from California is effectively December 1, 2012 as it takes at least 3 business days to get to New York and between now and December 1 there is one major holiday and probably many winter storms. This is not the government elections; this is your own listener-sponsored radio station.

The ballot is a simple fill-in the circle with black or blue pen, and the ranked choice voting that is common now in many government elections. The instructions are in the booklet and at the top of the ballot, which top you tear off as it has your name and address on the back. You will have to refold the ballot so it fits in the return envelope, and it does fit nicely. You can get more information on the election in general and ranked choice voting at http://elections.pacifica.org/

The candidate statements are in the booklet and longer statements are at http://elections.pacifica.org/candstmt/cand_list.php
Hopefully, in the future, every candidate statement will be required to state in the first sentence the name of their slate and/or their website as that will certainly save the reader lots of time.

The United for Community Radio slate has an excellent website at:
http://www.votecommunityradio.org/

The contrast between the UCR mailer and the slick mailer of the government operation to destroy Pacifica, SaveKPFA, is very clear. UCR is smaller, more concise and much calmer. Its focus is people, not slogans and has no attack on other slates. On the back side, the KPFA Staff Endorsements are on the right, a summary of the UCR platform is in the middle in peaceful green, and the rest are the Community Endorsements, with organizations highlighted in green.

In case you have not been reading the Media page of this website, the SaveKPFA’s horrifying attacks on Pacifica and KPFA are many. You may learn about them at:

1. The Analysis tab of the UCR website at
http://www.votecommunityradio.org/?cat=4
Currently featured is Tracy Rosenberg’s article, “The Battle For Clarity: Dan Siegel and the Pacifica Foundation” wherein she describes the actions of Dan Siegel, a SaveKPFA candidate, including his recommendation as legal counsel of a WBAI (New York’s Pacifica station) lease for 20 years with an annual 15% rent increase, which the Pacifica board signed. This kind of action can only be to destroy a very poor non-profit radio station. The SaveKPFA gang led the failed fight to recall our beloved Tracy Rosenberg.

2. Daniel Borgstrom’s website at
http://danielborgstrom.blogspot.com/2009/02/dan-siegel-at-pacifica-radio.html

We need enough votes to constitute a quorum and given the American aversion to voting, that is always a struggle. We can be sure the SaveKPFA supporters will all vote. If you want Pacifica and KPFA to survive, you have to vote United for Community Radio and mail your ballot today. Please make this your top priority.
We are 100% volunteer and depend on your participation to sustain our efforts!
