SEIU Local 1021 have voted in a new contract for museum workers in San Francisco.
According to Carlos Rivera from SEIU 1021 "SEIU Local 1021 members at the de Young and Legion of Honor museums voted 97 percent to ratify a contract this week." This contract took a year, and the negotiations were intense, but they(museum workers) believe it will set a precedent for other union contracts. Museum tech Mark Garrett says "the highly publicized and covered actions at the museums brought attention to their plight" and their new contract will bring them an "immediate 3 percent wage increase and an additional 10-18 percent increase over 3 years." Museum workers(union members) will have to contribute to their health care, but will only cost them anywhere between $25-$75 depending on if they have additional dependents or families.
I am not affiliated with Local SEIU 1021, but felt obligated to report this outcome because I cover their events. More information can be found here SEIU Local 1021
