The Silver Tour targets medical marijuana message to seniors
Although 65% of seniors who vote have voted "no" on medical marijuana, The Silver Tour, headquartered in southern Florida, targets them for education on the issue.
Robert Platshorn, now 59, spent 30 years in prison for "smuggling marijuana," watching his son grow up from behind bars. Now free, Platshorn has launched The Silver Tour, an educational effort involving public speaking, billboards, lobbying efforts, and videos. He calls his efforts "The Gospel of Pot." One of the other participants in the Silver Tour campaign is Irv Rosenfeld, a Fort Worth stockbroker, who has been smoking medical marijuana supplied by the federal government for 37 years to keep his bone tumors in remission. Rosenfeld swears by the stuff. The Silver Tour has a web-site where many of their educational videos are available, including interviews with Platshorn and Rosenfeld.
