Beit Ommar Settlement Protest 12/18/2010
Beit Ommar, nestled between Bethlehem and Hebron, currently has six settlements surrounding the southern West Bank village. Since 2006 there has been a weekly demonstration in Beit Ommar to protest the cutting of (worker's) trees and building of the security fence.

Several hundred residents from Beit Ommar are currently political prisoners in Israeli prisons, and the village is subjected to late-night raids by Israeli forces almost every night. The main road leading in to the village has a permanent watchtower guarded by the Israeli military. http://www.sott.net/articles/show/219356-Palestine-Beit-Ommar-returns-to-its-roots
Mousa explains that, four days prior to the protest, the IDF came to state that part of this 800 year old mosque would be used as a synagogue. Mousa told us that the IDF were told that they would have a large outcry were this to be enforced, and the IDF has not yet returned to the mosque.
Beit Ommar has approximately 17,000 residents, many of whom make their living as farmers.
