Street Vendor Protest in West Jerusalem, 12/16/10
On December 16th, 2010, at Zion Square on Jaffa Street in Jerusalem, activists gathered to support approximately 250 street vendors who have, since mid Oct 2010, had their street carts taken away by the police due to a decision of the mayor of Jerusalem, Nir Barkat, not to renew their contracts.
Jerusalem's street vending began as a part of a post-prison rehabilitation program. Unfortunately, only the vendors who have had their street carts demolished by the Jerusalem Municipality joined the demonstration, but this may be because others were too afraid to join in protest at this point.
