#61 in D Minor
WEST COAST CARAVAN CALLED FOR TO GO TO WASHINGTON D.C. TO PARTICIPATE AT INTERNATIONAL MONETARY FUND DAYS OF RESISTANCE OCTOBER 7-11...the convergence site is at St. Stephens Episcopal Church in D.C. with unlimited sleeping accomodations.
Observations of the present moment in lieu of my 61st birthday tomorrow September 28th: At the Book Zoo party Saturday night, we were delighted when Ayr and Gabby showed up with free wheelin' Tristan Anderson. We got T. a beer, and then got down to examining the upcoming IMF Days of Resistance in D.C. 10/7-11. T. and I were there during the incredible shutdown of D.C. April 16th, 2000, and we briefly reminisced about when Starhawk and the witches spun a web of yarn blocking off a crucial intersection on K Street, with the helicopters overhead, tear gas in the streets all over the central district, and Tristan and I sat down in the middle of the intersection because he wanted to discuss vegan dessert recipes for the upcoming Food Not Bombs dinners at the convergence site, which was at the Wilson Center. I mean, how cool can anybody be? I'll probably never be that cool, but it is good to be Tristan's friend.
On October 7th, the International Monetary Fund Days of Resistance begin (i.e. the fall meetings of the World Bank and IMF in Washington D.C.); St. Stephens Episcopal Church has generously offered to be the convergence site with unlimited sleeping accomodations. In conversation with the crowd at Book Zoo on Saturday, it was agreed that it is vitally necessary to offer a response to current IMF policies, that surpasses the incredible statement made in April 2000. This means that not only does east coast Earth First!, Greenpeace, and Rainforest Action Network have to show up in force, but that a west coast caravan needs to arrive as well.
It's showdown time, y'all. There's no "maybe next year" available as an excuse anymore. Hey, you may not have a next year! And as the woman covered with anarchist patches at the Cafe Med said last night, "Like, if not us, then like who?" On the eve of my 61st birthday, I leave you with that for your further reflection.
For those who are interested in continuing this dialogue, and organizing an east bay caravan to D.C., I will be at Kip's on Durant off of Telegraph Ave. tomorrow night at 8:30PM, just as soon as I finish my evening meditation at the Berkeley Vedanta Society. Conclusion of "#61 in D Minor", all anti-copyright laws strictly apply.
