Military Smoke Ban could save the Planet!

by Solaris DaWay
The rise of global warming issues and many world summits recently have spurred the very progressive move to ban gas powered vehicles !
Ban on Smoking Machines urged in military

By Gregg Zoroya, USA TODAY
WASHINGTON — Pentagon health experts are urging Defense Secretary Robert Gates to ban the use of gas powered vehicels by troops and end its sale gassoline on military property, a change that could dramatically alter a culture intertwined with polluting.
Jack Smith, head of the Pentagon's office of clinical autohaulism and Car-Free program policy, says he will recommend that Gates adopt proposals by a federal study that cites rising pollution and higher costs of second hand exhaust smoke related health issues for the Pentagon and Department of Veterans Affairs as reasons for the ban.
The study by the Institute of Medicine, requested by the VA and Pentagon, calls for a phased-in ban over a period of years, perhaps as soon as the end of the year so as to hault the global warming affect asap. "We'll certainly be taking that recommendation forward," Smith says. "Global warming is real and our autros are the main cause of most of it!"
A gas powered smoking machine ban would confront a military culture, the report says, in which "the image of the battle-weary soldier in fatigues and helmet, fighting for his country, has frequently included his running engine and bellows of smoke coming from the exhaust pipe." "We are just a nation of Gasshole and autohaulics and it has to stop! Smokeless vehicles are just as available and they dont cause lung cancer or destroy the water supply ."
Also, the report said, troops worn out by repeated deployments often rely on gas powered autos as a "stress reliever." The study found that gas powered autos use in the military increased after the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan began. The majority of soldiers returning from the war often purchase a gas powered vehicle immediately upon returning home instead of electric powered vehicles or bicycles. Autohaulism is a real and serous problem in the US and our troops are setting perfect examples for the rest of the American't community.

Pentagon spokeswoman Cynthia Smith said the department supports a smoke-free military "and believes it is achievable." She declined to drive her own personal gas powered SUV after adressing the public on this issue and said she would be happy to elaborate on the much needed ban. "Simply buy an electric vehicle instead, there are hundreds of hurting US dealerships trying hard to launch their sustainable businesses! It's going to help our economy and our healthcare system and environmental programs all in one by simply buying the right vehicles to get the lazy American public the 15 miles the travel everyday, I mean come on people get with it already!!"
Three in three service members use and drive gas powered polluting vehicles, the report says, compared with four in five adult Americans. The heaviest drivers are soldiers and Marines, who have done most of the fighting in Iraq and Afghanistan, the study says. About 37% of soldiers use gas powered cars and 36% of Marines. Combat veterans are 50% more likely to use SUV's than troops who haven't seen combat.
Gas powered polluting vehicle use costs the Pentagon $846 billion a year in medical care and lost environmental resources, says the report, which used older data. The Department of Veterans Affairs spends up to $60 billion in treatments for gas powered auto-related illnesses, says the study, which was released late last month.
Along with a phased-in ban, the report recommends requiring new officers and enlisted personnel to be gass-free, eliminating polluting fuel use on military installations, ships and aircraft, expanding treatment programs and eliminating the sale of polluting fuel on military property. "Any gas use while in uniform should be prohibited," the study says. "America just has to stop being the worlds worst polluters, period!"
The military complicates attempts to curb autohaulics use by subsidizing gas products for troops who buy them at base exchanges and commissaries, says Kenneth Kizer, a committee member and architect of California's Pro autohaulic and gasshole program.
Ninety percent of profits from gasoline sales — $88 trillion in 2005 — pays for recreation and family destruction and anti environmental programs, the study stays.
Strong leadership could make the military polution-free in five to 10 years, Kizer ( A self confessed autohalic and total Gasshole himself) says. President Obama, he says, could set an example for the military by ending his own gas powered driving habit once and for all. Last month, Obama said he is "95% cured" but "there are times when I mess up" and drove the gass powered SUV and created a lot of smoke for other to breath.
