BAVC's plan for SF Public Access TV
Public protest and comment period still open to voice concerns about the future of Public Access TV in San Francisco.
"A public protest and comment period runs through 5:00pm on July 10, 2009, so we're not counting it as "official" until the protest period has closed."

"BAVC Selected to Assume Public Access Operations in San Francisco!
BAVC is thrilled to announce that the City of San Francisco has chosen us to assume operation of the public access television stations in San Francisco.
After budget cuts and a competitive RFP process with many worthy applicants, the SF City government announced this morning that they have selected BAVC to assume operation of the public access television stations in San Francisco. A public protest and comment period runs through 5:00pm on July 10, 2009, so we're not counting it as "official" until the protest period has closed. In the interim, we welcome your input and encourage everyone who cares about public access in San Francisco to join us and voice their opinions, concerns, and wishes, via the City's official process (outlined in the PDF notice below), or directly to BAVC via the contact link below.
While we recognize the immense challenges ahead, BAVC feels prepared, after 33 years of service in San Francisco in the areas of digital media training, production, innovation, and support, to lead public access in San Francisco (and beyond) to new heights in collaboration with community partners. One such community partner is the Participatory Culture Foundation, makers of Miro and developers of Miro Local TV, who contributed input to our proposal and vision for new digital services and online channels. Below is the narrative containing our vision for public access in San Francisco, and we encourage you to read it and also welcome your input on the vision outlined therein.
We hope to create a true public service, one that involves broadcast and community participation, but also one that strengthens the fabric of our vibrant city, encourages participation and volunteerism with our City's diverse nonprofit organizations, and one that encourages the sharing of diverse viewpoints and stories that make our city so great."

Producers, viewers, Staff/Laid-off Staff, and other concerned citizens and parties need to file their protest regarding this criminal hijacking by BAVC to the: San Francisco Department of Technology and Information Services at One South Van Ness, 2nd Floor, San Francisco, California 94102, by Friday, July10th, @ 5pm. Send copies to the SF Board of Supervisors.
A fair and competitive bidding process for the operation and management of public access television in San Francisco did not take place this past Spring. Instead, a sweetheart deal was brokered b/w The City, BAVC, and, yes, Comcast, prior to the commencement of the so-called RFP (Request For Proposal) process. The Board of Supervisors along with the FBI need to investigate this sham.
If this award to BAVC is allowed to go through, Free Speech at public access will be seriously jeopardized by those at City Hall and in the Corporate Media (BAVC/Comcast) who have their own political and social agendas for these channels.
Don't let them take away our First Amendment right to Free Speech on San Francisco Public Access Television! Protest!

Letters of Protest were filed with the San Francisco Department of Technology and Information Services (DTIS) on Friday, July 10th, 2009, by San Francisco public access television activists/producers. The City has approximately 7 days to respond to the
allegations made in the letters regarding the proposed award of the operating contract to the Bay Area Video Coalition (BAVC).
Producers, viewers, staff, and other concerned parties need to get behind these protesters for the purpose of keeping public access television open and operating at full production capacity at its' current location on Market Street. BAVC, in its current
submitted proposal, has no intention of keeping the current convenient and accessible facilities open for any form of studio
production (recorded or 'live'), a serious breach of First Amendment rights for both producers and viewers alike.
Support the Protests and get active now, producers and viewers, and Save Our Station!
