A Bay Area Strategy Discussion
Join the Friendly Fire Collective for an open strategy discussion on
organizing against police power in the Bay Area. This event will feature a
panel discussion of organizers from police accountability groups around
the Bay, including San Francisco, the East Bay, San Jose, Sonoma County,
and Watsonville. There will be an open discussion of current campaigns,
strategies for fighting police violence and enhancing response capacity,
and ultimately building community self-determination.
What are the specific issues involving law enforcement that we see
affecting our communities? What steps have we taken to address these? What
is working and what isn't? After an incident of police violence has
occurred, what can we do collectively to respond to this type of assault?
How do we take the power away from law enforcement and reconcentrate it in
the hands of community members? And how can we look beyond state policing
to a new type of community policing based on accountability to ourselves
and our peers, not corrupt and draconian laws? It is hoped that from open
and honest conversations around these topics networks can be built and
effective strategy developed.
Friday May 22nd, 7pm AK Press Warehouse 674-A 23rd St., Oakland

Most Decorated Marine in History: "WAR IS A RACKET"
The real speech re-created by an actor
If you know your history, you know that in 1934 there was an attempted coup
in the United States that was thwarted largely due to the efforts of U.S.
Marine Corps Major General Smedley Butler (ret.)
Look it up.
Among other things, Butler was only one of 19 people ever awarded the Medal
of Honor twice and the only person to be awarded a Marine Corps Brevet Medal
and a Medal of Honor for two different actions.
After it dawned on him how his heroism and the heroism of the troops under
his command had been misused, he wrote a book called "War is a Racket" which
I can virtually guarantee you never heard about in school.
Butler concluded there are only two reasons to ever take up arms:
1. To defend the country against real - not manufactured - attacks
2. To defend the Bill of Rights

)'( DUST & ILLUSIONS Last screenings in the Bay Area. Thursday June 4th, 6:30pm & 8:30pm
The new documentary Dust & Illusions explores 30 YEARS of BURNING MAN
HISTORY: From the late 1970s into the deep origins of the Burning Man
festival, till today, the documentary explores the evolution of the
now largest counter-cultural event in North America. Using footage
that has never been seen, and interviews of the founders like John Law
and Larry Harvey, of artists like the Flaming Lotus Girls and Pepe
Ozan, and other participants, the film brings a critical perspective
about Burning Man that no other documentaries have visited and reveals
a past buried into the memories of a few that have long been forgotten
but influenced the festival in powerful ways.
There are 2 shows: One at 6:30pm, another at 8:30pm. All previous
shows have SOLD OUT, so it's recommended to get your tickets early.
