Cops Attack Anti-Capitalist Bloc on Shepard Road, 9/1/08: video

by dave id
Video starts a few seconds after cops and perhaps national guard began to ruthlessly attack the Anti-Capitalist bloc across the street on the Shepard Road waterfront at Jackson.

The bloc was moving northeast on Shepard and paused at Jackson Street across from a line of riot cops. Police, and what appeared to be Minnesota National Guard, then began to attack the bloc with tear gas, bean bags, concussion grenades, and colored smoke bombs/clothes markers.

As an NLG rep says on the video, these people had no where to disperse to, no where to go.

Many people were injured as a result of the attack. Once the attack stopped, some people had to deal with serious problems with contact lenses and tear gas exposure, others needed to just rinse the painful gas from their eyes and faces, some were tending to wounds caused by the beanbag projectiles, and a small number were shaky from the trauma of the very hostile attack by riot police.

Accompanying photos covering the Anti-Capitalist Bloc that do not include the attack can be found at https://www.indybay.org/newsitems/2008/09/01/18531916.php.

Video of the entire Anti-Capitalist bloc action will be posted later. It will show events from the tail end of the permitted march back to the Capital Building all the way through the hyper-aggressive cop attack and the mass arrests that followed.
