Stop SB 27 and Save the California Delta!
If you care about the future of the California Delta, make sure that you attend the Assembly Committee on Water, Parks and Wildlife Commitee hearing tomorrow at 10 a.m. to stop Senator Joe Simitian's bill to build the peripheral canal. This canal will only make things even worse on the California Delta, where four species of pelagic fish - delta smelt, longfin smelt, threadfin shad and juvenile striped bass - have declined to record low numbers because of massive increases in water exports in recent years. If the canal proposal goes through, these fish and Central Valley chinook salmon, both now in a state of unprecented collapse, will undoubtedly dive over the precipice of extinction.
Action Alert from http://www.stopthecanal.org:
Friends of Stop the Canal -
Tomorrow, Tuesday April 29th is a critical day for those of us that truly care about the future of the Delta. The Assembly Committee on Water, Parks and Wildlife, chaired by Assm. Lois Wolk will be hearing Senator Joe Simitians peripheral canal bill S.B. 27 at 10 a.m. in Sacramento.
This measure would move planning for the canal onto a fast track, and represents the most urgent threat to the quality of the Delta. Lois Wolk is doing her best to kill this terrible measure, but it has the support of a lot of very powerful interests. Please call her and thank her for all of the work she is doing to stop the canal, and urge her to keep up the fight by killing the Simitian bill tomorrow. Her office number is 916-319-2008 and her email is:

Thank You.
