Day Labor on SF Bayshore Bd, "Not a Political Debate" ??????????

Today 13 Day Laborers &community activists met with Ed Lee, Balmore J. Hernandez (DPW) and Wade Crowfoot (Newsome's cabinet)
at the Mayor's office,
about the sneaky move from Newsome to open a day labor program on Bayshore in district 10 without inoculating Cesar Chavez Day Labor clients, staff and board on the process. Bilingual interpretation was provided to give all participants equal voice.

Present were :

Laborers:
Enrique Salgado
Eric Roman
Rosa Romero
Guillermina Castellanos (Collectivo de mujeres)
Javier Lopez Castro
Julio Loya

Day Labor Board of Directors:
Bob Erickson
Sister Jazzie Collins

La Raza Centro Legal staff:
Ana Maria Loya
Renee Saucedo
Hillary Ronen
Jill Shenke

Philip Hwang (Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights)
Chris Newman (National Day Labor Organizing Network)
mesha Monge-Irizarry (Idriss Stelley Foundation, District 10 resident)

Lee was cautious and nervous, Crawfoot's body language netrayed extreme irritation... requesting that we do not "politicize the meeting and bring it back down to administrative issues"...and refusing to give a rationale on his lack of contact with Day Labor about the plan.
They both contended to agree with Sanctuary and the rights to stand at corners (although in the same breath adamant on reducing the presence of Laborers on the street, under the pressure of NIMBY, "Not in Our Back Yard", mostly white and Asian home owners and merchants, negotiating power to finance (or not) Newsome's mayoral race...)
Have you heard of constitutional rights, boaz? Who cares if you "agree" with Sanctuary, it is LEGISLATION, that will always go on without your blessings !

Whether they like it or not, the current Day Labor program, that has the trust of the client base and the long standing expertise of running a vibrant program, HAS to sit at the table to shape and launch Day Labor on Bayshore, consolidated by binding contract for the next fiscal year, and they must RUN the Bayshore satellite !

Renee Saucedo, Ana Maria Loya and their program have the full support of the SF Bayview Newspaper and Marie Harrison, as well as the Idriss Stelley Foundation in District 10

As soon as Day Labor sees it fit, we will grow a huge constituency of support for the expansion (not replacement) of Cesar Chavez Day Labor onto Bayshore ! We're talking petitions, signature gatherings, meet and greet in District 10, the whole 9 yard !

And set up serious neighborhood watch through Idriss Stelley Foundation to insure compliance from the infamous upcoming Home Depot on Bayshore, right next to City Build, supposed to house (sounds like "warehouse" says Renee...) Day Labor on Bayshore, better not call the cops on the Compas...

Laborers has been gathering in front of UHaul on Bayshore for years. It is hard to believe that the City could not negotiate a rental agreement with one of the many empty facilities closer to Uhaul... but chose the vicinity of kkkop lovers, anti Laborers Home Depot. Hard to ignore the smell the rotten fish...

Lee "surveyed Laborers in District 10"... Were you approached Yall ? What promises did he make to rope them into this scam ? One inquiring Bayview mind wants to know...I surveyed undocumented immigrants by Double Rock, 3rd Street, San Bruno, they were all puzzled, had not heard of an upcoming Day Labor on Bayshore...

Watch out City Hall, we're on the case, no tricks, no games !
Day Labor will benefit ALL workers: Latino, Black, Asian and Pacific Islanders, Native American and whites...

If designed and run by the folks who have outstanding, trackable experience of doing so since 1991 !
