Can NIMBYs ban CastroWeen 2006?
Some elitist Castro NIMBYs would abolish CastroWeen --
if they could....
With police bullying, at great financial and karmic loss, they might make it duller.
But only cold rain can make the 2006 event smaller.
(In 2007, daylight savings may mellow the mood.)

To the Bay Area Reporter:
Will SF's Entertainment Commission try to cancel the "street party" aspect of CastroWeen,
to appease powerful white NIMBY elitists?
[ Please see SF Examiner, 27 July 2006.]
I ask the commission, and Supervisor Dufty, to ignore negative nattering, and to continue positive efforts to improve this unstoppable annual event.
Negativists and police can indeed make it less fun --
but to make it smaller, they would need cold rain.
Here are three suggestions:
(1) Organizers should request one dollar donation from persons (over age ten) in costumes (even minimal costumes); but ten dollars from persons wearing street clothes; and should publicize this difference in advance. ( Kids under ten should get in free, costumed or not. )
(2) Muni should re-route surface buses and streetcars, from noon on Oct. 31
until 3 AM on Nov. 1, annually (and thus predictably).
(3) The "And Castro For All" (AC4A) group should consider
whether classism and racism fan the flames of NIMBYism.
Finally, let me offer an olive leaf to negativist nabobs:
In 2007, U.S. Daylight Saving Time
will be extended by four weeks, to the first Sunday in November. So on 31 Oct. 2007 and every following CastroWeen, the period between sunset and midnight will be one hour shorter.
