Spokane antiauthoritarian July 4 walk

by infoshop
Anarchists in Spokane, Washington organized a march promoted as a "March For Rights" that took place this 4th of July afternoon. Close to fifty people with signs, upside-down flags, and black flags marched through busy downtown Spokane at around 4pm behind a large sign that "We Are Not Afraid!" with the acronyms "FBI", "JTTF", and "NSA" circled and crossed out.

The event's aim was to raise awareness to the ongoing struggle dissenters are experiencing as police and FBI intimidation grows, and to stand against patriotism in the face of that intimidation without fear.

The march went through the cities main festivities where hundreds of people were subjected to several chants including "The real terrorists in the world today are the FBI and the CIA" and "No Bush, No Kerry, revolution is necessary".

A very public flag desecration demonstration took place directly after the march. Two people stood on a park bench holding an American Flag upside-down while a person read a short speech which included "To me, This symbol represents the blood spilled in it's name, the anguish called for by the buildings that wield it, and the time spent in jail by people who have spoken and acted against it. This symbol has offered nothing for us we couldnt have given ourselves, and to the contrary has put us through things we would never have wished for or imagined. This symbol is tarnished, and tainted. This symbol is not sacred to me. This symbol provokes my rage."

The flag was then spraypainted on, and torn in half to be thrown to the marchers, who promptly shredded it and cheered.
