SUPERFEST Int'l Disability Film Fest
@ La Peña, Berkeley
SUPERFEST International Disability Film Festival, the primary international showcase for cutting-edge films that portray disability culture and experience in all its diversity. With a goal of improving perceptions and dispelling common misperceptions that many people hold about disability, SUPERFEST continues to support and encourage excellence in filmmaking, accessible cinema and the passionate exchange of ideas in the groundbreaking films they introduce to the Bay Area each year. Featuring BEST OF SUPERFEST 2006 winner "WOOD DIARY", U.S. artist David Edwin Meyers' dreamlike interpretation of the life of Walker Woods, an isolated rural artist with a disability, who created haunting wood figures. A transcendent and shimmering reflection on the beauty of ritual and the power of unconditional love and commitment, WOOD DIARY will be screened June 3 and 4 at La Peña Cultural Center in Berkeley along with the other 13 SUPERFEST award-winning films. Sponsored by the Corporation on Disabilities and Telecommunication (CDT), a Berkeley-based non-profit.
