Youth And Power Was A Success
Our 6th anual Youth And Power event was a great success, it attracted youth from Watsonville, San Jose, Salinas, Santa Cruz, Aptos, the Bay area, as well as L.A. and other locations.
Youth And Power 2006, is an event put together by the Watsonville Brown Berets to educate the youth about issues that affect us as a community and the social justice movement as well as entertain the youth with great performers and special guests. This year we had music by Cihuatl Tonali, Para La Gente, Warlordz/Gambit, Brown Berets' rap group Dangerous Minds, and special performer Immortal Technique spitting revolutionary knowledge to the youth, we also had great spoken word by Patricia Poston. We had speaker Adisa Banjoko author of Lyrical Swords speaking about the theme of this years Youth And Power "Brown And Black Power" in addition we had a very special guest out of Chicago son of late Black Panther Fred Hampton and chairman of the prisoners of conscience commitee, Fred Hampton Jr. likewise speaking about the importance of Black and Brown Unity. other performers included the hip-hop dance troop and DJ GI Joe.
The vets hall was full to its capacity, it was peaceful throughout the night and seeds where planted in these young minds, the future soldiers of the movement.
