More Cal hate in '08?
Will '06 hate repeat in '08?
TIMING for partisan advantage
Fire-breathers and fat-cats are very different,
but they need each other.
Homophobic fundi-fascists feel strong emotions
about preventing any legal recognition of same-sex couples and families.
For most of them, it's a religious issue, more than a political issue.
But non-fundi Republican strategists, consultants, and donors,
who control the big money which fundis need to succeed,
must plan electoral tactics and strategies with their heads, not just their guts.
Apparently the money-men have slowed down the calendar
of hate initiatives in California.
Timing may determine turnout, which MAY determine whether a proposition loses. In the special November 2005 election, Republicans were hoping fundis would turn out for an anti-abortion prop; and would also support Arnie's props. Fundis did show up, and they came close to passing the anti-abortion prop; yet all eight props still failed.
Recently, we were told that neither of two rival anti-marriage amendments will appear on the June 2006 primary ballot. Why not? (1) Because Democratic primary turnout may be high this June, while Republican primary turnout may be relatively low.
And (2), more importantly, because increasing fundi turnout at a primary won't help Republican nominees beat Democratic nominees; since state-wide primaries occur mainly WITHIN each party.
Apparently the money-men told the fire-breathers, "You want money for your amendment? Then postpone it to the general election, in November 2006."
Republicans hope that increasing fundi turnout in November '06
will help Republican candidates, whether the amendment wins or loses.
If the amendment loses by a big margin, it's probably dead.
But if it loses by a narrow margin (like the recent anti-abortion prop),
then California Republicans could back a second hate amendment,
for the November '08 Presidential ballot. Can they profit twice from bigotry?
Randy Thomasson, fundi leader of the so-called
"Campaign for Children and Families", offers this hint:
"Whether it be November 2006
or sometime in 2008,
it doesn't matter."
