After recent Latin American Summit humiliation in Argentina-- Bush is off to Asia to lick wounds (like Schwarzenegger after humiliating election defeat in California).

Imagine if France recalled it's ambassador from Britain because Tony Blair has been acclaimed by a majority in the world as the "lapdog" of US dicatator George W.!
by so much for tongue-in-cheek
or rather-- Britain recalled its ambassador from France!
by one more correction
Hugo Chavez is not a Marxist.
so, I suspect that this has quite a lot to do with the 2006 Presidential election in Mexico

the reaction of the Fox administration to Chavez's comments, which would have normally been allowed to dissolve with the passage of time, suggests that Chavez is quite popular there, given unhappiness with NAFTA

so, they felt the urgency to try to get Chavez to back down as a way of discrediting him

meanwhile, Chavez appears to be exploiting the dispute as an attempt to highlight that Fox is a lame duck that no one cares about, as well as indirectly helping leftist Mexico City mayor Obrador to succeed Fox
