MUNI Social Strike
Social Strike Combines Resistance of MUNI Passengers and Drivers
The increased Muni bus fares that went into effect Thursday September 1st were a surprise for many San Franciscans in spite of all the advance news and publicity. Even fewer citizens were aware that a group of civic activists were advocating a public protest and calling for a strike against paying the increased fare. All of the activists who participated in the protest that beganat 3 pm at 4th and Market Street were unanimous about the protest being a peaceful one. They encouraging people to reject the fare increase and budget cuts that put the poor, the disabled, the elderly, and immigrants at the greatest disadvantage. Photos

A MUNI Social Strike Forum was held on Thursday, August 18th at 6pm at Coffee to the People.
On August 29th, a press conference and "Speak Out" was held at 24th and Mission Streets in San Francico. Photos | KPFA Evening News report
