Ingrid Newkirk of PETA speaks in SF: photos and full audio
by dave id
Friday Feb 18th, 2005 10:17 PM
The founder and president of the largest animal rights group in the world spoke at A Clean, Well-Lighted Place for Books Thursday, February 17, 2005.
In support of her new book, "Making Kind Choices", Ingrid Newkirk spoke and signed copies at her only appearance in San Francisco. She is a highly engaging speaker who can discuss the horrible treatment of so many animals and maintain an infectious optimism all the while. In their 25 years, PETA has made tremendous strides toward improving the lot of countless animals (and, in turn, humans and the environment as well). Ingrid Newkirk's remarkable contribution to the animal rights movement has spawned legions of animal advocates and animals will never again be exploited without at least one person standing up and demanding the cruelty be stopped. For the better, our world will never be the same.

She noted that her most recent book is intended as a gift from vegans, vegetarians, and animal rights activists to give to their more compassionate friends who maybe haven't made the leap to a more cruelty-free lifestyle yet.

She strongly encouraged everyone to make full use of all of PETA's copyright-free materials at their website and to request any printed materials they have to offer. From video at to CD-ROMs, from pamplets to other materials, PETA has compelling information on virtually every aspect of the human use of animals and its ethical, health, and environmental ramifications.

If you have the online bandwidth, do take the time to listen to what she had to say for yourself...
