Stop Valero’s Attack on Union Labor
the Valero Corporation insists on hiring over 800 non-union, temporary workers to replace formerly union jobs. Please join me in supporting our brothers and sisters in the local Bricklayers Union who will be losing over 80 union jobs at the refinery.
Help Stop Valero’s Attack on Union Labor! Join us for an Action on Friday 10/8 7AM Benicia, CA
It has been a difficult year for working people in the Greater Solano County Area. Diebold tried to trick the public into accepting touch screen machines (we stopped them!), Benicia tried to build a 22 million dollar jail wile their schools went broke (we stopped them!), now Wal Mart is trying to build a super center in American Canyon and Valero is replacing unionized workers. Our past success have proved that by actively organizing, even in small numbers, community and labor activists can and will succeed. Nothing is ever a sure thing, but one thing is certain…when we organize, we show our strength….
Oil profits are climbing to unseen heights, yet, the Valero Corporation insists on hiring over 800 non-union, temporary workers to replace formerly union jobs. Please join me in supporting our brothers and sisters in the local Bricklayers Union who will be losing over 80 union jobs at the refinery. The main danger is that theses non-union workers will slowly replace more and more unionized workers not only at Valero but at the other area refineries as well. Such maneuvering and attacks on working people’s standard of living must not be tolerated! Union jobs bring financial security and healthcare to millions of Americans.
Valero has subcontracted the replacement workers through a company called Altair Strickland. These replacement workers not only will be removing millions of dollars of payroll coming into the community but they will be weakening union power across the board throughout our region. We will be demanding that Valero end its contract with Altair Strickland and instead use a contractor that hires unionized, local labor.
Please join us at 3655 Park Rd, Benicia at 7AM for a community support rally and help us walk the picket line! (Workers will be gathering at 5AM!)
Solidarity!
