Josh Banno Legal Update

The case against Tucson activist Josh Banno appears to be weakening as the District Attorney is backing away from the claims that Josh lit the fire, but they are still maintaining that he assaulted an officer resulting in a burn injury.
The Banno Defense Committee (Team Banno) has been working round the clock to coordinate legal support. We have put together a PDF flier with specific talking points and contact info for major newspapers and New York government officials. Please print, distribute and act on this flier as soon as possible.
As of 1:00 pm today, the word is that the felony charges against all the dragon arrestees have been dropped, except for Josh’s. The severity of his assault on an officer charge has been lowered from a Class C to D, which will hopefully allow his attorney to ask for a lower bail.
If all goes to plan, he will be bailed out Friday.
We are still raising money for Josh’s case – and expect to incur many expenses during the next few months leading up to the trial.
We are planning a jail solidarity action for today at a parking lot that Josh can see from his cell window. We have a large “FREE BANNO” banner and will gather as many people as possible to join the rally.
Here in NY we are working with Indymedia and others to collect photos and video footage of the march to use as evidence to prove Josh's innocence on all charges.
If anyone has any footage or photos that may help out, please visit the link to our web site and find out how to contact us.
We appreciate all the support and solidarity from everyone that has been following the case. After his hearing Friday morning, we will post an update to Indymedia.
