Hotel Workers Rally in SF

About 2,500 UNITE HERE! Local 2 members and their allies marched through San Francisco Friday afternoon, to show their solidarity before city-wide contracts expire at midnight on August 14. Local 2 was joined by hotel workers from throughout the Bay Area, as well as members from dozens of other San Francisco unions and community groups. Earlier in the week, the Multi Employer Group proposed to take away health care from hundreds of lower-seniority workers and to impose huge copay increases on retirees. The corporations also proposed to restrict their own payments so that employees' health benefits would either be slashed, or made unaffordable for the majority of hotel workers.
